A primary example of Italian Mid-Century Modern and Space Age design, this sculptural, fixed wall or table lamp is a confirmed masterpiece from the visionary Joe Colombo (1930-1971) for Oluce, circa late 1960s. The design revolves around a curved, open reflector in deep blue lacquered metal (with a pristine white interior) that creates a controlled, 'vademecum'-style indirectable light wash. The central chrome-plated socket houses a rare, period-correct half-chrome cap bulb, which reflects light back into the blue shell and down, minimizing glare and embodying Colombo's obsession with integrated, modular systems and 'living machines'. This architectural piece is a rare and highly collectible item, demonstrating Colombo's early focus on directing and containing light as a design tool.
