Collection: Arvida Byström
Arvida Byström (b. 1991, Stockholm) is a Swedish artist working in photography, performance, and digital media. Her practice began with self-portraits on platforms like Tumblr and Instagram, using them to explore identity while questioning norms of femininity, beauty, censorship, and the body. Byström’s aesthetic blends hyper-feminine, pastel imagery with provocative elements—such as body hair or menstrual blood—challenging the tension between intimacy and exposure, the digital and the physical. She also investigates how technology and online culture shape desire, sexuality, and the commodification of bodies, increasingly engaging with AI and digital objectification. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including solo shows like Cut the Cake at Dunkers Kulturhus (Sweden, 2024) and Abyss at Galerie Kandlhofer (Vienna, 2025), as well as at Fotografiska, Gallery Steinsland Berliner, Kunsthalle Wien, Tate Modern, and the V&A.
